LANCASTER, Pa. (AP) -- Eight people protesting a possible pipeline near a Native American site in central Pennsylvania have been charged with trespassing.
LNP news reports about three dozen people demonstrated against the natural gas project in Conestoga Township.
Workers began drilling test holes Monday on the property owned by utility company PPL. They briefly stopped after being confronted by protesters, but later resumed drilling.
Williams Partners has proposed a pipeline through 35 miles of Lancaster County that would carry natural gas drilled in Pennsylvania to the Eastern Seaboard and foreign markets.
Protesters say the area has significant Native American history and artifacts.
A Williams spokesman says the company is aware of the culturally sensitive area and will proceed cautiously.
