KENAI, Alaska (AP) — An Alaska borough assembly opened a meeting Tuesday with a call for guidance from the powers of Lucifer.
The Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly featured an invocation from a member of the Satanic Temple.
Iris Fontana called on the gathered to "embrace the Luciferian impulse to eat of the tree of knowledge."
She called for reasoning solutions with agnosticism and "holding fast only to that which is demonstrably true."
She closed her comments with, "Hail Satan. Thank you."
Kenai radio station KSRM reports (http://bit.ly/2aJDmpd) that the assembly recently offered people of various faiths the chance to give invocations.
Assemblyman Dale Bagley says he appreciates Assembly President Blaine Gilman trying to be fair.
But he says Fontana's invocation was a political statement and a pastor doing that likely would not be asked to return.
