LOS ANGELES -- Jeopardy! host Alek Trebek announced Wednesday that he has stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

"I'm going to fight this, and I'm going to keep working,... and I plan to beat the low survival-rate statistics for this disease," said Trebek in a video posted to his game show's social media page.

He said he's one of 50,000 people in the United States each year diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The median survival rate for stage 4 pancreatic cancer is between two and six months.

Trebek joked in the announcement that he had to beat cancer, "because under the terms of my contract, I have to host Jeopardy! for three more years."
