SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An Orange County man who shot to death his ex-girlfriend after drinking and listening to a Guns N' Roses song about killing a woman has been sentenced to 50 years to life in prison.
Thomas Wilhelm of Costa Mesa was sentenced Friday for first-degree murder.
Prosecutors say in 2012, Wilhelm stole a gun from a neighbor's home, returned to his own home and shot 45-year-old Christine Murray.
Authorities say 11 minutes before her death, the victim had texted a friend to say that he was drinking and loudly singing along to a Guns N' Roses song with the lyrics: I used to love her, but I had to kill her."
