PITTSBURGH (AP) -- State police say they shot and killed a man who abducted an 8-month-old girl and held a knife to her throat after leading police on a car chase in western Pennsylvania.
Authorities did not release the dead suspect's name but say he was the man identified in an Amber Alert issued earlier. The Amber Alert identified the girl's abductor as 21-year-old Jared Brown-Garnham.
State police issued an alert for the child at 1:20 a.m. Sunday after she was taken from a convenience store in Brentwood. Police later spotted the suspect's car, leading to a chase that ended with the man ramming security gates at Pittsburgh International Airport.
State police say the suspect put a knife to the child's throat and threatened to kill her. A trooper shot and killed the suspect. The child was taken to a hospital with cuts and scratches, then released to her mother.
