BERWICK — Berwick’s fireworks at Jingle Hall have been postponed to Friday.
Organizers called off the Independence Day display after a Wednesday afternoon thunderstorm turned the area they planned to use to shoot the fireworks into a lake, said Christy Monico.
Columbia County Emergency Management Agency staff reported that Vine Street flooded after drains there backed up.
Monico said 3 inches of water flooded into the charity’s basement. Meanwhile, the back of Crispin Field, where the fireworks were to be launched, has no drainage, she said. It takes the fireworks company three hours to set up, and with the groundwater and the threat of more lightning, it was too dangerous, she said.
Festivities Friday will begin at 7 p.m., with free snow cones for children, food available for everyone, and fireworks starting around 9:30 p.m.
“Friday will be fun,” she said.
Jingle Hall is at 237 W. 11th St.
As of 4:15 p.m., the show at Bloomsburg's Town Park today was still on schedule.
