A former Republican state finance secretary from Kingston and a former Democratic state agriculture secretary from Millville will face off in the fall for a seat in Congress to represent Columbia and Montour counties and the rest of the new 9th District.

Dan Meuser, R-Kingston, won the Republican primary handily, with 26,475 votes, compared to Schyulkill County Commissioner George Halcovage's 12,013 votes and Scott Uehlinger's 11,520 votes, according to unofficial results.

On the Democratic side, Millville's Denny Wolff garnered 10,949 votes, to outpace Berks County dentist Gary Wegman, who took 8,439 votes, and Susan Quick of Lebanon County, who earned 7,602.

All told, 50,008 Republicans voted in Tuesday's 9th District primary, while 26,990 Democrats voted.

We'll have interviews with the winners in Wednesday's edition.
