Oversized loads start down Route 11 in Salem tonight

SALEM TWP. — A second set of large deliveries for the new Caithness Moxie Freedom natural gas power plant will start winding their way down Route 11 tonight, a spokesman says.

One oversize load is scheduled for each night this week through Friday, said Steve Kratz.

No large deliveries are scheduled over the weekend or next week. The final modules are set for delivery to the project site on Nov. 14 and Nov. 15.

The first of the gas turbines is scheduled to be delivered Nov. 17.

Afterward, there will be a two or three week period without large deliveries, he said.

The first set of modules has already been delivered and erected at the site on Mingle Inn Road, he said.

The pieces are being carried by train to the railroad spur at Riverview Block Co., then taken by road the last three miles to the new gas power plant site.

Talen, owner of the nearby nuclear plant and the railroad spur, gave permission for the new gas plant to use the transportation line.

The mover, Bigge Crane and Rigging, told Salem Township it plans to make the deliveries around 10 or 11 p.m.

Flagmen will help direct traffic around the slow-moving vehicles, Kratz said.
