PennDOT preps for freezing drizzle

Last updated: January 8, 2016 - 10:34am

WILLIAMSPORT – PennDOT will be preparing area roads today for freezing drizzle that may fall this evening.

Trucks will be spreading a salt brine on Interstate 80, along with other interstates and major routes in Columbia, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, Lycoming and Union counties.

The salt brine is spread from sprayers attached to the brine tank on PennDOT trucks. The trucks have signs on the backs indicating their purpose.

The department notes that the treatment doesn't guarantee the roads will be ice free. It asks drivers to watch for slick spots, especially on bridges and overpasses

Motorists can check conditions on more than 40,000 roadway miles by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information and access to more than 770 traffic cameras.
