BLOOMSBURG — Vandals armed with a pellet gun shot the windows out of at least 25 vehicles parked across half a dozen local municipalities, police say.

The crime spree was discovered early Monday morning, with calls coming in throughout the day, authorities said. The majority were concentrated in the southwest corner of Bloomsburg, said Police Chief Roger Van Loan. "It’s senseless. Totally, totally senseless."

The first report came in to South Centre Township Police around 3 a.m., Chief William Richendrfer said. A church van parked at Almedia Bible Church was among the vehicles hit.

All three storefront windows at M&M Carpet One along Route 11 were also pierced by metal pellets, but not shattered, said Richendrfer. That repair alone will probably cost several thousand dollars.

Vehicles in Scott, Hemlock, and Montour Townships as well as Catawissa were also reported damaged.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to call police in their area or the Columbia County dispatchers at 570-784-6300.
