Water main break sends Danville High to virtual class Thursday

DANVILLE — Danville Area High School students will attend class on their computers today, unable to go to school in-person because of a water main break.

Assistant Superintendent Jason Moser said the district first became aware of the break at about 3 p.m. on Wednesday, after students had been dismissed for the day.

Moser said the break would take at least a day to repair.

The district is allowed to utilize five Flexible Instructional Days or “FID”s in case of emergency.

“This is certainly an emergency,” Moser said.

Students should check the Google Classroom for each of their courses and completing any posted assignments from home, Moser said.

Danville’s basketball game against Southern Columbia was cancelled Wednesday evening and has not been rescheduled.

Moser indicated that repairing the break would be the responsibility of the district because that area of water line sits on school property.

Other district buildings will be open today, with a previously planned three-hour early dismissal.

Buses for those buildings will operate as normal, Moser said.
