Police shut down street near Berwick, call in drug cleanup team

BRIAR CREEK TWP. — Officers raided a house Thursday at 1026 Seventh Ave., where they say their informants had been trading cash and pseudoephedrine for methamphetamine since 2012.

The most recent purchase took place the day of the raid, according to a search warrant request.

Five people were taken into custody in the joint operation between Briar Creek Township, Berwick and the Office of the Attorney General, said Briar Creek Police Chief Thomas Frace.

Town boss tenders resignation

BLOOMSBURG — The town administrator here is leaving to helm the borough of Lewisburg.

William Lowthert says the decision, which comes with a slight pay cut, means he’ll get to spend more time with his family.

Lowthert was hired at a work session Tuesday, slated to earn $75,000 when he starts the new position Nov. 16. “I live in Lewisburg so certainly it’s a quality of life thing being closer to my family, having the opportunity to be there for my son’s soccer games and my daughter’s basketball games.”
