Discussion heated on anti-discrimination ordinance
BLOOMSBURG -- Two landlords in town refused to rent to Matthew Barcus when they found out he was a gay man, he told a town council committee Tuesday morning.
Barcus, an advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students at Bloomsburg University, said he wanted to move to the town in which he would work. "But I've been cut out, because I couldn't find affordable housing with a landlord who would have me." So instead he moved to Berwick.
I-80 exit to close temporarily
BLOOMSBURG -- State Police are shutting down the westbound Lightstreet exit ramp today at 1 p.m. to reconstruct an accident that ended a high-speed chase last weekend.
Troopers will close exit 236A to conduct an investigation into the crash in which William Anthony Tyler, 20, of Bloomsburg, was rammed by a trooper after a miles-long police chase.
The closure will last about an hour, police say. Motorists can used the 236B exit, which heads toward Lighstreet, or the Buckhorn exit at mile 232.

Eau de speeder: Cops catch fleeing suspect due to cologne
LEBANON, Ore. (AP) -- Officers in western Oregon say a suspect they tried to collar at a traffic stop drove too fast for pursuing officers, but eventually he was just too fragrant.
The Albany Democrat-Herald reports that the driver gave officers in Linn County the slip in a high-speed chase before dawn Sunday, doing better than 100 mph in a red Honda Prelude whose hood flew off.
But Lebanon police later saw the car parked and launched a search by foot.
That's when officers caught a "strong scent of cologne" in the darkness and soon found their suspect hiding in shrubbery.
