BLOOMSBURG — Police are looking for a Bloomsburg man who appears to have gone missing as he was preparing newspapers for delivery early Thursday morning, his girlfriend says.

Police have been searching in the area of the river after Steven Whitenight's black, two-door coupe was found parked at the Bloomsburg Airport, near the East Bloomsburg Bridge.

While there’s no indication that Whitenight, 30, seeks to harm himself, since his car was parked nearby, it seemed a logical place to search, said Bloomsburg Police Chief Roger Van Loan.

No one has seen or heard from Whitenight since about 3:30 a.m. Thursday.

Girlfriend Michelle Zeiber said she last saw Whitenight,  of West Main Street, Bloomsburg, around 1 a.m. Thursday, after his shift at Domino's Pizza. When she woke up around 7 a.m, she found newspapers in their house ready to be delivered, but Whitenight was missing.

She described him as 5 feet 9 inches tall, and 155 pounds, with hazel eyes and light brown hair. He was wearing black pants, black sneakers, a Domino's shirt, a Denver Broncos hoodie and Broncos beanie cap the last time Zeiber saw him, she said.

The search Thursday was hampered by the weather. It was too dangerous for a fire department boat to enter the water due to ice, Van Loan said. Instead a State Police helicopter was called in.

Other departments in the county were notified, but as of Thursday afternoon, Van Loan said Whitenight was considered to be a adult who had been missing for less than 24 hours.

The chief recalled that a town man once went missing for a year with no notification to anyone and just reappeared.

Police ask anyone who knows where Whitenight is to call officer Brad Sharrow or Melanie Readler at 570-784-6779 or 570-784-6300.
