BLOOMSBURG -- Former Bloomsburg University football player Mike Kogut might be returning to the area to coach at Bloomsburg High School.
Bloomsburg Superintendent Cos Curry has recommended Kogut, the former Tri-Valley head coach, to become the new head coach for the Bloomsburg Panthers.
The board will meet Tuesday night to vote on Kogut's possible hiring.
Curry emphasized that nothing is official until the board approves the move.
"He's the recommended candidate," Curry said. "Provided approval, he'll be the coach and begin working with the athletes immediately."
The football program had been looking for a coach since Larry Sones' sudden resignation Feb. 7. Sones was 84-43 during an 11-year tenure in which he turned the Panthers into one of the most consistently successful teams in District 4.
Kogut, who was also a former assistant at Mount Carmel, played under two well-known head coaches: Mount Carmel's Joe "Jazz" Diminick and Bloomsburg University's Danny Hale.
"It's a waiting game until Tuesday," Kogut said. "I'm excited to work with the district. It's something I never expected."
Kogut spent five seasons at Tri-Valley, going 34-26 and leading the Bulldogs to the East final in 2009 and an Eastern Conference title in 2008.
