Snow shuts down several roads

BLOOMSBURG -- Police have closed several roads in Bloomsburg and Danville due to "ongoing issues" with the heavy snowfall, police say. Riverhill Drive, between Bloomsburg and Catawissa, has been shut down. Traffic on the Bloomsburg side will not be allowed to cross the bridge, and instead will be rerouted onto Fort McClure Boulevard. Motorists are also discouraged from using Mainville Drive, since PennDot has not yet cleared that road.

Terdiman's last chance at medal

SOCHI -- Berwick's Jayson Terdiman and his three luge relay teammates have been knocked out of contention for a medal in Sochi. The U.S. relay team was in place to claim bronze, but with four teams left to compete. They finished sixth on the day out of 12 teams competing. The four lugers finished 1.906 seconds off the gold-medal mark of the German team. The U.S. team started strong with a run by Erin Hamlin, but continued losing ground to the top teams in the single male and doubles legs of the relay.

Man who shot at another man's feet avoids jail

BLOOMSBURG -- A Nescopeck-area man fired a handgun at the feet of another man seen near his girlfriend's house last Novemeber, but he avoided a jail term with a plea bargain Wednesday. Harold "Bucky" Smith, 24, had drawn a gun on Brian Laubach and fired it once into the ground as the two fought in an empty lot near the Elks Lodge off Old Berwick Road Nov. 3. Smith had tailgated Laubach's car there because he had seen Laubach near the home of Smith's girlfriend, Maria Farnell.

Sinkhole opens below museum, swallows 8 Corvettes

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- A sinkhole collapsed part of the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky on Wednesday, damaging eight cars but not shutting down the building. Museum spokeswoman Katie Frassinelli said six of the cars were owned by the museum and two -- a 1993 ZR-1 Spyder and a 2009 ZR1 Blue Devil -- were on loan from General Motors. Bowling Green city spokeswoman Kim Lancaster said the hole opened up at about 5:40 a.m. CST Wednesday, setting off an alarm and a call to the fire department. Frassinelli said no one was in the museum at the time.

Here's a look at cancellations that have been reported so far for Thursday, Feb 13, due to the expected snow:BLOOMSBURG -- The town has postponed its curbside recycling collection for Areas 4 and 5 in town until Thursday, Feb. 20.BLOOMSBURG -- The Columbia County Veterans Breakfast planned for Thursday at Morris' Restaurant, Lime Ridge, has been canceled. BERWICK -- Berwick High School Class of 1950 has postponed Thursday's luncheon to Thursday, Feb. 20, at noon, at King's Restaurant, Berwick.

Berwick's Terdiman finishes 11th in first Olympic luge competition

SOCHI -- Berwick's Jason Terdiman and his luge partner Christian Niccum retained 11th place with their second run of the day, finishing in 50.591 seconds. Their combined time was 1:40:945, or 2.012 seconds off the gold-medal time posted by the German team of Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt. The time was the better of the American teams, so Terdiman will have the chance to compete again, this time in the luge relay scheduled for Thursday. The top American female, male and doubles team will complete the three-legged event.
