Injured deer wanders into Salvation Army

BLOOMSBURG — An injured deer had to be shot by police after it wandered into the downtown Salvation Army store on Monday morning.

The deer bolted skittishly into a back room, knocking over racks of clothing and other sales items Monday morning, police said.

Bloomsburg Acting Police Chief Lenny Rogutski said the animal appeared to be a large doe — possibly a yearling that had been separated from its mother.

Water line serving Nescopeck repaired

NESCOPECK — Repairs to the main water line serving about 600 borough customers was repaired Saturday morning, but a precautionary boil advisory will remain in effect for at least another day, officials said.
The water line break, which happened Tuesday morning, was under the Susquehanna River. Crews had to build a coffer dam to expose the rupture before repairs could be started Friday, said officials with Pennsylvania American Water.
Portable water tanks were set up at the Sunoco gas station on West Third Street, where customers could fill their own containers.

Railroad work near Danville-Riverside bridge starts today

DANVILLE — Work on a railroad crossing in Riverside created a traffic tie-up both there and here Friday afternoon, as the lane on the Route 54 Danville-Riverside bridge leading to Riverside was shut down, and traffic on the lane heading to Danville was restricted.

The restrictions are so that Norfolk Southern Railroad Co can replace the railroad crossing on Route 54 — Elysburg Road — just off the Danville-Riverside bridge in Riverside Borough.

A 17-year-old from Bloomsburg has gone missing, police say.

Lacey Danielle Bradshaw, 17, is approximately 5-foot-2 and 115 pounds. Bradshaw has shoulder length, reddish-brown hair and hazel eyes.

She was last seen at her residence in Bloomsburg and has not had contact with her guardian since 5 p.m. on Thursday. Anyone with information on Bradshaw's location is asked to contact the Bloomsburg Police at 570-784-6300. 

Cops: Thief stole $20G worth of lawnmowers in a stolen pickup

SOUTH CENTRE TWP. — A thief used a stolen pickup to steal three zero-turn grass mowers and a 16-foot trailer from C.H. Waltz and Sons mower dealership early Wednesday.

South Centre Township Police say a red Exmark 60-inch mower, an orange Kubota 54-inch mower, an orange Kubota 60-inch mower and a black 16-foot trailer were stolen from C.H. Waltz’s sales lot on Industrial Drive around 1 a.m. Wednesday. The stolen equipment was worth about $20,000 total.

The pickup used in the burglary was stolen earlier from Heller’s Gas in Scott Township. 

Nescopeck residents without water because of main break

NESCOPECK — Water to large sections of the borough of Nescopeck dried up Tuesday after a 12-inch water main under the Susquehanna River sprung a leak, officials say.

Pennsylvania American is now trying to pinpoint the leak to repair it, said Greg Freitas of Luzerne County Emergency Management Agency.

Crews have laid 3,000 feet of hose across the Berwick-Nescopeck bridge to provide some low-pressure water service to residents. But Pennsylvania American warned that anyone who can get water out of their taps should boil it before using it.

Chief: Fire damaged Berwick trailer

BERWICK — Dozens of firefighters quickly contained a blaze in a mobile home here late Monday, but the trailer was extensively damaged, an official said.
Everyone got out of the residence, and no one was hurt, Fire Chief Randy Remphrey said.
The blaze at 230 W. 17th St. was reported just before 10 p.m.
Firefighters killed power to the trailer, Remphrey said. They were still investigating the cause and circumstances at press time.
The residence was surrounded by yellow emergency tape by 10:15 p.m.

Detour around Klondike Road

LIBERTY TWP. — A damaged drainage pipe has closed Klondike Road here between Route 642 and Valley Road, PennDOT officials said.

The department plans to replace the pipe and reopen the road by Tuesday afternoon.

Until then, motorists are being detoured through Route 642 and Route 54.
 

 

 

Woman reported being sprayed by intruder in East Berwick, cops say

SALEM TWP. — A woman reportedly tried to talk her way into a resident’s house late Tuesday night, then sprayed the homeowner with a household cleaning chemical when she was turned away, police say.

Officers received a call around 10:30 p.m. from a homeowner near Salem Elementary School, said Sgt. Thomas Hegland.

The homeowner said the brown-haired woman, described as about 5-foot, 10-inches tall, in her 30s, wearing pants and a jacket, knocked on her door, said her child was missing and asked to come in.

Shots fired in Pine Street neighborhood

BERWICK — Three men exchanged gunfire here Monday morning, narrowly missing a four-year-old girl and her mother caught in the crossfire, and shattering windows and doors at nearby businesses.

William Benedito, 1021 Pine Street, says he was outside his home with his wife and four-year-old daughter around 8:30 a.m. when he saw two men with guns jump out of a white van near the entrance to Weis Markets.

The men began shooting at him, so he returned four shots — all that were loaded in his gun’s magazine, he said.
