Fire destroys Liberty Township barns

LIBERTY TWP. —Wind blew embers from a burning barn to a second barn which also went up in flames Sunday night during a three-alarm fire.

Firemen from numerous volunteer companies in three counties rushed to the scene, just south of Mooresburg, only to be confronted by two fully-engulfed large structures that began partially collapsing at 877 Bald Top Road in western Montour County.

Lawyer: Trump indicted; 1st ex-president charged with crime

NEW YORK (AP) — A Manhattan grand jury has voted to indict Donald Trump on charges involving payments made during the 2016 presidential campaign to silence claims of an extramarital sexual encounter, his lawyers said Thursday, producing the first criminal case against a former U.S. president and a jolt to Trump’s bid to retake the White House.

Trump, who has denied any wrongdoing and has repeatedly attacked the investigation, called the indictment “political persecution” and predicted it would damage Democrats in 2024.

Fire damages recently rented town storefront

BLOOMSBURG — Firefighters kept flames from spreading through a row of buildings on Main Street early Wednesday.

A fire broke out inside a recently rented one-story storefront at 10 W. Main St. around 1:30 a.m. 

Colleen Tarantino sat in tears on the curb across the street as smoke poured from the spot she and husband Eric just put their life savings into.

The Bloomsburg couple recently rented the spot between Ding Tea and La Malbec with plans to open a restaurant, she said.

Body of missing woman found in Mayberry Township

MAYBERRY TWP. — The body of a 37-year-old woman who has been missing since Dec. 22 was found near the Susquehanna River Saturday afternoon by people walking in the area, the county coroner says.

Riverside Fire Department was calleld to the area of Sharp Ridge Road and Susquehanna Road to help remove the body of Amy Gregory from the rough terrain, said Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn.

An autopsy is scheduled for Feb. 14.
